Thank you for purchasing Sony Pictures Digital Vegas Movie
Studio 4.0 software. This document contains information about
installing and using Vegas Movie Studio software on your computer.
- A bug that prevented some CD drives from extracting audio
from CDs has been fixed.
- A bug has been fixed that could cause corrupted audio
to be created when using the Make Movie Wizard to burn a
DVD.
- A bug has been fixed that could cause the application
to crash if you added Video Output FX and then used the
Undo command to remove the effects.
- A bug that prevented the Pixelate plug-in from processing
video has been fixed.
- Do not install the application to the root of your C:\
drive.
- Do not install the application to the same folder as an
existing Screenblast Movie Studio or Sonic Foundry VideoFactory
installation.
- If you open a Screenblast Movie Studio or Sonic Foundry
VideoFactory project in Vegas Movie Studio 4.0, please save
it immediately with a new name. Vegas Movie Studio 4.0 projects
will not open in Screenblast Movie Studio or Sonic Foundry
VideoFactory software.
- If you connect an external DVD burner while Vegas Movie
Studio software is running, the drive will not be available
until you restart the application.
- Attempting to access your DVD burner (by browsing with
Windows Explorer, searching the drive, or starting an application
that scans for available drives, for example) while burning
your project can cause burning to fail.
- The Macromedia Flash (SWF) reader plug-in does not read
files saved as Flash 6.0 or higher.
- Flash files that contain Actionscript or motion video
will not be interpreted correctly by the Flash reader plug-in.
- If you need to transfer your plug-in licenses and templates
between legacy Sonic Foundry and Sony applications, a suite
of tools is available to help you. Choose Start
> Programs > Sony > Utilities > Migration Tools
> Migration Tool Readme for more information
about these tools.
- Clip bins are not supported in Vegas Movie Studio software.
As a result, right-clicking a clip bin in Sony Video Capture
software and choosing Add to Media Pool
will have no effect. If you want to add the contents of
a clip bin to the Media Pool, select the contents of the
clip bin, right-click a selected file, and then choose Add
to Media Pool from the shortcut menu.
The following lists the minimum system requirements for
using Sony Pictures Digital Vegas Movie Studio software:
- Microsoft® Windows® 2000 or XP
- 500 MHz processor
- 150 MB hard-disk space for program installation
- 128 MB RAM
- OHCI compatible i.LINK® connector/IEEE-1394DV card
(for DV capture and print-to-tape)
- Windows-compatible sound card
- CD-ROM drive (for installation from a CD only)
- Supported CD-Recordable drive (for CD burning only)
- Supported DVD-r/-rw/+r/+rw drive (for DVD burning only)
- Microsoft DirectX® 8 or later
- Internet Explorer 5.0 or later
The install utility creates any necessary folders and copies
all files required by Vegas Movie Studio software to your
computer.
Installing from CD
- Place the Vegas Movie Studio CD-ROM in the drive. AutoPlay
displays an installation menu.
If
you have disabled the CD-ROM AutoPlay feature, click the
Start button and choose Run. Type D:\setup.exe, where
D is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive, and follow
the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- Click Install, and then follow the on-screen
prompts to install the appropriate version of Vegas Movie
Studio software for your computer.
Installing from the Web
- Download the install utility from our Web
site.
- Double-click the file, and then follow the on-screen prompts
to install the appropriate version of Vegas Movie Studio
software for your computer.
6.0 Vegas Movie Studio User Manual

Included on the Vegas Movie Studio CD is a complete Vegas
Movie Studio User Manual in Adobe Acrobat (PDF) format. The
Acrobat format allows easy printing of the text, should you
need a hard copy. The manual is located in the Manual folder
on the CD.
Installing Adobe Reader
In order to view the manual, you will need to install
the Adobe Reader. It has been included on the CD in the
\Extras\Adobe Reader 6.0 folder for your convenience. To
install Acrobat Reader, follow these steps:
- Place the application CD in the drive. AutoPlay launches
an installation menu.
If
you have disabled the CD-ROM AutoPlay feature, click
the Start button and choose Run. Type D:\Extras\Adobe
Reader 6.0\English\AdbeRdr60_enu_full.exe, where D is
the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive, and follow the
on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
- Choose Browse CD, and then browse to
the D:\Extras\Adobe Reader 6.0\English\ folder.
- Double-click the AdbeRdr60_enu_full.exe icon and follow
the on-screen prompts to complete the installation.
